What's New
WPT High Roller event @ Grand Prix de Prix, Aviation Club de France
I flew to France as usual, because I can't miss a single tournament that goes on at the Aviation Club. As I've mentioned before I love the Aviation Club. There's always good cash games, great food, and all around great people. I played the WPT Grand Prix event, but had no luck. I was out in two hours, which to me is not bad luck, because I didn't waste two or three days and end up with the same result.... not cashing or winning the whole tournament.
Lucky for me there was still another event I was able to play. The High Roller event, which was new to this years Grand Prix. It was a two day event, with over 25 players and 20k euro buy in. My first two hours in this event weren't looking too good. I was down to 15k from 50k starting chips. But, as the night went on I began to chip up, and had a pretty steady pace the rest of the night. I ended up finishing Day 1 second in chips.
Going into Day 2, I was obviously very confident with such a nice chip stack to start the day. Before I knew it I was heads up with Sorel Mizzi. He was a very aggressive, and great player. I was down to 200k against his 1 million in chips. Things weren't looking to good. But, all I need is a chip and a chair. We played a pretty long time heads up, but all it took was three lucky hands for me to end up winning the tournament.
I had KQ off suit vs his J8 offsuit... all in preflop. For my 200k, but I turned the Q.
A few hands later....
He raised, and I pushed all in 400k with AQ offsuit vs his AK offsuit. I was lucky enough to flop at Queen, and double again to take over the chip lead.
Last hand I raised with AK offsuit, then he reraised me with AQ offsuit... so I pushed All In, and he called. But, he didn't have my luck of catching a Queen, and the tournament was over with my Ace-King high, and 290k euro as my departing gift from the Aviation.
Mizzo played great!
Sorry to the employees of the Aviation, and the camera crews who were trying to get us to raise the ante because everyone was getting tired, and the final table was taking so long. They tried to raise the ante on me when he had 3-1 chip lead. But, I didn't agree to it... it just doesn't work this way. Thanks for your patience.
It was a great event. Thank you Mr. Fitoussi. I always look forward to spending time at the Aviation! See you next tournament!
