The 40th Annual WSOP

The World Series is always a long haul. Playing a different event everyday with 57 different tournaments to choose from. Then the Main Event itself lasting twelve days only to play down to th Final 9, who will then return in November for the final table! The World Series is not for the weak! You have to patiently make your way through a battle field of bad beats, coin flips, and your chip stack roller coastering up and down constantly worrying if you're making the right move.

Freddy started out strong this year with an 8th place finish in Event 3-$1,500 Omaha 8 or Beter, cashing for $27,029. Deeb pushed all-in pre-flop and was called by Thang Luu. The two pair of Luu held up against the aces of Freddy Deeb. Deeb was sent home ever so close to his third World Series of Poker bracelet.

A few days later Freddy then came in 12th place in Event 8 - $2,500 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball, going home with $4,960.

Freddy made a deep run in this years $50k World Championship H.O.R.S.E., trying to regain his 2007 champion title. Playing strong, and holding one of the chip leads going into Day 4, things were looking very good. Unfortunately Deeb was eliminated in 14th place, for $83,630.

Eliminated during Hold'em, the 2007 $50K H.O.R.S.E champion was down to just 100,000 chips when he defended from the big blind against the button raise of Gus Hansen. With all the money in the pot, Deeb exposed the Ad2s and was up against the Js9s of Gus Hansen. The board ran out KdQsJh7dJc, as Hansen made trip jacks to eliminate Deeb late on day four.

Although the 40th Annual MAIN EVENT lasted over twelve days, Freddy's tournament life was cut short Day 1 when he was eliminated by Keven Stammen.

Here is how the hand played out:

Three players were in a pot that saw a flop of KcQs4d hit the felt. Keven Stammen fired 2,200 and Freddy Deeb made the call, as did another player. The turn was the 10s and everyone checked. The river was the Qd and Deeb led out with 6,000. The other player in the hand folded, but Stammen repopped it to 37,000 total. Deeb only had 11,000 behind and made the call.

Deeb then tabled AhJd for a Broadway straight, but Stammen showed KdQc for a full house and Deeb’s main event was over.

It was a short Main Event showing going out in Level 3, but as he has said after busting,

"It really sucks, but it's better to go out earlier, rather than later... and still not making the money, or winning the bracelet."
